About  the Awards

ThePet.net awards  – back for the second year running – celebrate businesses that offer the BEST for YOUR pet.

We aim to honour pet friendly businesses working tirelessly across the UK putting pets, customer service and value for money first.

If you are a business offering a service to pet owners make sure you get recognition for all your hard work.

There are 14 categories covering everything from your Favourite Pet Friendly Hotel to your Favourite Pet Sitter.

You are invited to submit your entry by 5pm, Friday 30th July 2010. The judges will then create a shortlist of the top 3 in each category which will be placed back on ThePet.net website for you, the pet owners, to vote for the winner.

Enter Your Pet in this Fantastic ‘Paws For A Portrait’ Competition

Welcome to Paws For A Portrait, your chance to win a portrait by myself of your best canine friend as well as helping to protect and re-home dogs in need with Dogs Trust.  Not only that but the winner will have the opportunity to meet with Marc Abraham, the renowned TV vet when he will present the finished painting to you.

All the money raised from the £5 entry fee will help to ensure that Dogs Trust can give the very best care to an ever-increasing number of dogs.

Last year they re-homed nearly 500 dogs from the Shoreham centre and across the country they cared for more than 16,000 dogs.

Contributions such as this also pay for veterinary fees, equipment, food, and bedding and of course, the development and general maintenance of the re-homing centre.  So please pass details of this competition to all of your dog loving and owning friends!

Entry will close on the 15th of August so you have two months to find a spare fiver and get your entry posted off; all details are on the entry form.

Marc and I will be spending a long time deciding which dog is to win the portrait, so please take time to fill in details on the entry form of why your dog is so special to you, what makes you love them the most.

This is not a beauty contest, it’s about the incredible relationships we have with our canine friends.

Once we have decided on our winner we will get in touch and arrange a photo shoot of your dog to capture an image that reflects their character and soul and I will use this to work from.

ThePet.net’s vet Marc Abraham’s PUP AID Puppy Farm Awareness Day is on 19th September at Stanmer Park in Brighton. Part of the day will be the presentation and public unveiling of the finished painting and the chance to meet and chat with Marc afterwards. This is another special date for your diary, please come along and support us.

Please click here and go to print out the entry form, filling in all areas and securely attaching a photo of your dog (please remember to add the dogs name and your phone number to the back). If you are unable to print the form out please contact me and I will post one to you.

A very big thank you from myself, Marc and all the good folk who work at the Dogs Trust.  THANK YOU!

Thou shall have a fishy…

Fish tanks can often look a little bit dull, but the new biOrb Life tanks from Reef One are far from plain. They look hypnotic when they are lit up at night, and are a fantastic way to show off your pet fish in a tank that is easy on the eyes.

The nice folk over at Reef One have 3 fish tanks to give away to 3 lucky users of ThePet.net, you can enter the competition here, and find out more information about the biOrb Life fish tanks here. Good luck!

We Have Ourselves a Winner…

Boy did you guys want to get your hands on that pet food! We received hundreds of entries to the Burgess Pet food competition, but unfortunately there could only be one winner.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the food, is Shirley Harpley from Norfolk and her cat Taz. Taz is an enormous grey moggy with a serious amount of cattitude. Apparently he has claimed an entire sofa as his own, much to the annoyance of Shirley’s husband.

Congratulations Shirley and Taz, and sorry to all those who didn’t win, there’s always next time!

ThePet.net co-founder vet Marc Abraham is one of the judges, alongside fellow dog-lovers Brian Blessed and Victoria Stilwell!

The winning pooch will get to represent Oldies Club for the following year. The only rule for this competition is that dogs entering need to be veterans, they do not necessarily need to be rescue dogs.

Oldies Club is a lovely charity that rescues and re-homes older dogs via a network of foster homes and works with other rescue centres to publicise the plight of their older dogs too.

Oldies Club has divided the UK up into 7 regions (North East, North West, South East, South West, Midlands, Scotland and Wales. The winner of each region will go forward to the Grand Final.

As well as becoming the face of Oldies Club for 2009/10 the winner will also win a dog bed worth up to £50 kindly donated by Kudos Pet Products and a signed copy of Pet Photography Now! by Paul Walker of Paws Pet Photography.

ThePet.net Supports the National Skin Health Survey

ThePet.net is very proud to support the National Skin Health Survey, launched by Yumega-makers Lintbells in response to the massive recent surge in skin enquiries they’ve received.

According to Yumega, a potentially harmful combination of climatic conditions, centrally-heated environments and, most significantly, diet has the greatest impact on skin and coat health but the extent of the effect on our nation’s pets is unknown.

The National Skin Health Survey will help to reveal the true scale of the problem affecting the nation’s pets, many of which are thought to be suffering in silence.

Take the survey now>>

We’ve given our full ThePet.net support to the National Skin Health Survey as we are keen to highlight worthwhile projects that encourage owner-feedback to improve the health and welfare of our nation’s pets.

Lintbells is conducting two online surveys, one for dogs and one for cats and comprise just a few questions that won’t take very long to answer and can be found by clicking here .

Owners taking part will also have the chance to win a range of prizes including tickets to the Ultimate Pet Show at the NEC Birmingham and Yumega omega 3 & 6 supplements.
