As this cold wintery snap continues to grip us all please make sure you’re taking special care of your cat because even with a natural fur coat, most will be ‘feline’ pretty chilly right now too.
Given the chance nearly all cats love to curl-up in soft squidgy fabric baskets, or better still, those clever beds designed to hook over a lovely warm and toasty radiator. Before getting into your car always remember to loudly bang on your bonnet as some freezing felines will already be taking refuge below it, usually snoozing underneath upon a warm engine.
Being wet is never good for cats either, especially when they go to bed all damp, so always make sure you give them a good rub-down when they come in at night or return home in the morning. This will reduce the likelihood of them catching a cold which if left will strain their immune systems and may progress into full-blown cat flu if left untreated.
Finally please spare a thought for wildlife out in your gardens. Keep birdbaths from freezing over with a ping-pong ball, never disturb piles of leaves as hedgehogs will still be hibernating; and consider putting fruit and nuts outside for passing squirrels and badgers to enjoy whilst the ground’s frozen solid.
